Fundraising, sponsor relations, and chapter operations
Our team is an interdisciplinary group responsible for raising funds for the four subteams, marketing events and fundraisers on social media, building community engagement, and managing overall business operations for our chapter.
Over the past several years, our team has successfully run crowdfunding and Giving Day campaigns (most recently the Barrio San Cristobal Sanitation project) to raise over $50,000 for the design and construction implementation of a public restroom and its attached septic system in Barrio San Cristobal, Bolivia. We continue to brainstorm and carry out creative ways to engage alumni and the wider public to donate and learn more about our projects.
In the past, we successfully raised over $60,000 for the Access to Water: Irrigation for Tanzania and Sustainable Housing Units (SHUs) project to design and complete the implementation of the water irrigation system in Sunuka, Tanzania, along with a portable home to assist members in need from the local community.
In the past, we also designed a text-to-image processor to streamline communication for the Tanzania subteam's irrigation system installation. In using natural language processing and machine learning techniques, the team executed the design of a rule and constraint based algorithm which inputs instructional text and outputs corresponding image sequences.
Currently, our focus is on strengthening meaningful engagement with local communities and raising funds for our second implementation trip to Bolivia. Through initiatives such as our current work on developing an engineering curriculum for local libraries and schools, we aim to expand access to STEM education while building lasting community partnerships. To continue supporting the team’s projects, our fundraising goal for the coming semester is $70,000, which we aim to achieve through corporate sponsorships, government and foundation grants, and other fundraising initiatives.
